MIDUAL, FRENCH MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER

Located to the south of Angers in France, the 1,800m2 factory is exclusively dedicated to the production of the Midual bike and its engine.

Fabrication Midual

Being a French motorcycle manufacturer today is a rarity. In a world dominated by large international industrial brands, Midual stands out as a deliberate exception: an independent French brand that designs, develops, and manufactures high-end motorcycles in France, according to a unique vision of mechanics and luxury.

Among these motorcycle manufacturers, the brand stands out with a radically different approach: the motorcycle as an object of engineering, style, and luxury, thought out in detail and produced in very limited series.

FRANCE AND MOTORCYCLES: A MECHANICAL TRADITION THAT LIVES ON

France has a rich history with motorcycles. From the early 20th century onward, numerous French motorcycle brands contributed to mechanical innovation and the rise of the freedom and joy of riding. While almost all of them have disappeared, this culture has never completely left the national industrial landscape.

Today, Midual continues this long history. The brand is the perfect proof that France can still produce high-end motorcycles that are technically daring and timeless in style.

MIDUAL, A TRUE FRENCH MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER

Among motorcycle manufacturers, Midual is, in France, a manufacturer in the fullest sense of the word. The brand has made the rare choice to design its own engine: this decision gives it strong technical legitimacy.

The value of innovating to reinvent this engine and persevering to build it is now abundantly clear. The Midual brand boasts a proprietary engine that is unique in the world.

HIGH-END MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED IN FRANCE, IN OUR WORKSHOPS

Manufacturing a motorcycle in France has become exceptional. Midual has chosen to produce locally, convinced that “Made in France” aligns perfectly with its high standards.

Located south of Angers in Maine-et-Loire, the 1,800-square-meter workshops are exclusively dedicated to manufacturing the Midual and its engine. The brand machines all of its castings in-house, including the engine castings and the self-supporting monocoque.

Every stage of production undergoes precise inspections, manual adjustments, and successive checks, ensuring impeccable quality.

DISCOVER THE MIDUAL MANUFACTURING PROCESS

The company began as a design office. It designed its engine (unique in the world and proprietary) entirely on its own. It handled its development, as well as the design of all the parts that make up its machines.

The monocoque, designed entirely in-house, is a particularly bold design. This component is a hollow body that allows the gasoline to be housed around the periphery of the motorcycle. It thus creates a spacious interior to house and conceal unsightly technical components.

The work on the styling parts is just as demanding. Integrating the radiator—concealed beneath a grille and framed by “bananas,” as they’re called in Midual lingo—required a year of R&D to successfully combine cooling functionality with the purity of the machine’s lines.

The particularly refined appearance of a Midual, with its curved, sculptural silhouette, owes everything to this internal design and the constant commitment to blending aesthetics and function.

In production, the parts are treated with the same care.

The monocoque is delivered to the factory by the aerospace foundry that manufactured it. It then passes into the hands of a master modeler who patiently straightens it with a bodywork file. It is this work that transforms the rough castings into a rough body shell.

After an initial polishing, the monocoque arrives at the machining shop. There, in a 5-axis machining center, it undergoes the operations that prepare it for final assembly: threading, tapping, and mounting. The process is long and precise. It begins with the installation of the fixtures that will support the monocoque. This is followed by the installation of the tools necessary for the machining operation. Machining begins once the monocoque is in place. The process is regularly interrupted for necessary checks and manual adjustments. Once removed from the machine, the machined monocoque remains in the machinist’s hands for several more hours of deburring and manual finishing.

The monocoque’s watertightness is then checked, after which it leaves the workshop to undergo vacuum sealing at a specialist facility. The watertightness of the component—which serves as the fuel tank for a Midual—is checked again upon its return.

Next comes another polishing phase. The polished areas are then protected internally, and the monocoque goes to be painted.

Upon its return, the final polishing takes place. This artistic work, which is akin to auto bodywork (requiring both a keen eye and a steady hand), is very demanding. Repeated attention must be paid to every surface, grain by grain, to refine an exceptional final result.

Each sub-assembly is treated with the same meticulous care. Since the assembly stage uses parts that have been thoroughly inspected, verified, and, if necessary, remade or modified following the incoming inspection, it is a mere formality. This time spent in the workshop culminates in the birth of a new Midual, smooth and seamless.

Every Midual is tested—first on a test bench in the workshop as soon as the powertrain is assembled, and a second time at the end of assembly, before being offered for sale.

Fabrication Midual

A FRENCH MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER WITH THE SOUL OF A CRAFTSMAN

Midual assembles its high-end motorcycles in the workshop by hand, like a manufacturer with the soul of a craftsman. Midual is considered the pioneer of mechanical excellence applied to motorcycles.

Here, luxury is not limited to materials or finishes: it is reflected in the time devoted to each part, in the precision of the fittings, and in the absolute respect for the craftsmanship involved.

Building a vehicle demands a great deal of seriousness. Anyone visiting the factory will see the dedicated workstations, the assembly sheets with checklists, and the assembly boxes where each part rests in a foam compartment cut to its exact shape.

One will also see the time spent carefully placing polished parts on microfiber cloths before assembly, the deft touch required to adjust a screw whose notches must align with the neighboring screw, and the polisher bent over a vehicle at the end of assembly to refine his work on a specific area.

A FRENCH MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER WITH A GLOBAL REACH

In the world of motorcycles, Midual occupies a unique place. Its motorcycles, both engineering machines and design objects, appeal to a clientele seeking authenticity and excellence.

By asserting its status as a French motorcycle manufacturer, Midual actively contributes to the global reputation of French industrial expertise, demonstrating that France can still produce innovative, and desirable high-end motorcycles.

Choosing Midual means choosing a motorcycle designed and manufactured in France, conceived without compromise and hand-assembled with absolute precision. It also means embracing a demanding vision of motorcycling, where technology, aesthetics, and riding pleasure form an inseparable whole.
